Ok let's look at how mine
performs (click
here)
Here is an AM and FM one
soldered and combined (Make sure
you don't ground the AM side of the
gang capacitor if your going to do this; put it to positive instead of
negative, along with the Loop Stick.)
Besides the fact that I had the computer running to make the video (was causing nasty interference), the radio works as good as one you can buy at the store.
Notice you can hear static between the channels, this is because the gain is set to it's maximum potential; this effectively means my radio can't pull in any more stations without another A.F. stage, or unless I get a better antenna.
Ok let's have a closer look at the radio before I go in-depth
on
each piece -
Schematic:
Let me break it down into its sections -
If you don't know already there are two adjustments on the
back of
the Gang capacitor that adjust the top frequencies of the Loopstick
A.F. coil and the oscillator; if yours doesn't have this, then
you
will need to place a trimmers across the oscillator and AF leads.
You can come back to this section while building your
superheterodyne.
